How to Choose the Best Approach

Arrayit's platform empowers genotyping with oligonucleotide microarrays as well as microarrays containing the patients DNA using our Variation Identification Platform. Before one decides on on of the two methods for SNP genotyping, please consider the following factors:

Size and scope: Consider the number of SNPs to be screened in your assay, and the number of of samples to be tested, as well as how many different projects will be going on at the same time. In general the Variation Identification Platform using the patient DNA on the microarray is more suitable for lower number of SNPs and high numbers in the patient population.

Capital Equipment Costs: Capital investment for our variation identification platforms can range from $85K to over $2M depending on throughput needs. Typically expensive sample processing automation is included in the high capital investment platform setups, a requirement of very high throughput labs handling thousands of tests per day with low manpower.

Consumables: Cost for consumables for our Variation Identification Platform can range from $0.1 to $1.00 per SNP per patient. This may not sound like a lot and it isn't. However, if a project involves screening tens of thousands of patients, it need to be budgeted for.
